Studio Perdu - a place for lost thoughts to gather

Hello, I’m Bex -  an artist & maker, working as Studio Perdu.

Art is a solitude for my busy mind, where I explore my surroundings, my thoughts and the physical ways which my chronic symptoms can manifest. I’m also inspired by the incredible things people (but mainly and usually women…) achieve.

I work predominately with ink & paper, incorporating photography, sculpture and found materials. I’m currently exploring mark making, finding the performance of the process just as valuable the results. I use black, white and sometimes pink - I’m drawn to the contrast, the softness of the pink, and the colour theories associated with them.

In contrast, as maker I love to embrace the silliness, the big daft ideas that make your uncle question ‘OK… but why?’. The nostalgia for carnival floats, folklore, familylore and the challenge of creating smiles out of nothing but a load of boxes, papier mâché and head full of ideas. I like to work on big things, from festival decor right down to small things like illustrating a family moment. This side of Studio Perdu is almost certainly inspired by my great grandad ‘bird’ and the madness he created with his jigsaw cutter, and my friends mum who created the most insane fake fireplace because she wanted to make sure there was somewhere to hang her Christmas stocking. Oh, and obviously that absurd head to toe badger outfit my mum made me that resulted in the theft of her (stunning) Ford XR2…

I’m based in South France, Montpellier but originally from Sheffield in the UK. I happily work in France, the UK and Europe - je parle un peu français, mais je préfère travailler en anglais lorsque je collabore sur des projets pour le moment :)
